Ten Syosset High School students participated in the 10th Annual Adelphi University Apprentice Challenge. Students Andrew Obedian and Aaron Rosenfeld received individual Challenge winner honors as members of the winning team.
The Adelphi Apprentice Challenge featured 240 of Long Island's top business students representing 27 schools. Students were grouped into 24 mixed teams, each representing different schools. Teams were instructed to assume the role of marketing firms and asked to assemble a successful strategic marketing plan targeting the "submillennial" marketplace (males and females aged 16-19 years old). They presented to distinguished judges from companies including Apple, Live Nation, Bed Bath & Beyond and AAA Northeast in a boardroom, much like contestants in the reality television show “The Apprentice.”
Andrew took the lead as the project manager for the winning team “Universal Sweets,” a group comprised of him, Aaron and six other students representing different high schools. He directed the team to complete the marketing plan within an hour time frame. Aaron tapped into his creativity and was responsible for the idea, as well as presenting the group’s idea with Andrew in the first round of competition. The Universal Sweets concept called for a subscription box business that delivers exotic candies from around the world to a recipient’s doorstep.
Additionally, Andrew (pictured left) and Aaron (right) were featured in an article in “The Long Island Business News” as members of the winning team. Earlier this year Aaron won second-place out of 74 competing student-run virtual businesses in the Elevator Pitch competition of the Virtual Enterprise International Business and Entrepreneurial Leadership Conference at LIU Post.
