One of 50 in U.S. Selected for International Olympiad Camp
Places No. 2 in NYS Competition
Congratulations to Syosset High School sophomore Wanlin Li, who tied for the fourth highest score in the country on the United States of America Junior Mathematical Olympiad exam. As a result, Wanlin is one of just 50 students nationwide to be invited to the Mathematical Olympiad Summer Program (MOSP) with a chance to qualify for the U.S. Math Olympiad Team and participate in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
The MOSP is a monthlong intensive summer program designed to prepare students for possible participation in the IMO. Full days of classes and problem sets provide students with thorough preparation in several important areas of mathematics traditionally emphasized at the IMO. At the end of camp, the top 12 performers will be tapped for the U.S. Math Olympic Team to compete against the most talented high school students from over 100 nations. This year, the IMO will be held in Hong Kong, July 6-16.
Wanlin was among only 230 students in the U.S. and Canada to be chosen to take the USAJMO exam, the second consecutive year she has been asked to participate in this prestigious exam, which qualified her for the MOSP.
Additionally, Wanlin recently finished in second place at the New York State Mathematics League competition in Penfield, New York. She also won a silver medal at the Long Island Math Fair, held at Hofstra University earlier this spring.
