South Woods Middle School students, staff, and faculty, along with participants from around the district, recently came together for the annual "Brave Bolt," an obstacle course that raises funds for the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island. With their colorful race pinny's bouncing with each step, more than 200 runners faced challenges such as "over under" "tire pull," "walk the plank," and the "Governale Special," a climbing wall designed by South Woods technology teacher Tim Governale. Clubs such as the Science Olympiad Club sponsored various obstacles and provided support and encouragement for participants.
Syosset High School peer educators were also on hand to man obstacle courses and water stations. South Woods peer leaders did their part by running the daycare room, complete with sand table activities, crafts, and a roving guitarist! Bubble soccer, face painting, and a temporary tattoo station were also available to attendees, as well as a bagel breakfast. The PTSA also sponsored a raffle.
All proceeds from the event were donated to the Ronald McDonald House of L.I.
