Give a sixth grader a fish, and you feed him or her for a day; show a sixth grader how to catch a fish, and you feed that middle school student for a lifetime!" Following Memorial Day, HBT sixth graders boarded the Captain Lou 7 and Star Stream 8 boats at Freeport's Nautical Mile. Students spent half the day learning how to fish and the other half working at five active learning stations. They learned how to read maps, tie knots, sing sea shanties and gained valuable knowledge about marine biology. Hands-on "touch tanks" held the wonders of the Great South Bay. The perfect afternoon weather added to this happy and productive day at sea off Long Island.
