The South Woods Middle School Outdoor Education Club recently took its first geocaching trip of the school year. Joined by science teacher and club adviser Chris Meyers, students visited the Stillwell Preserve before school where they hiked 1.5 miles, using the Geocaching app coordinate system to hunt for the geocache, which in this case contained a small teddy bear inside.
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of coordinates and attempt to find the geocache hidden at that location. Geocaches are usually containers or boxes with items inside left by previous adventurers. Often the container includes a pen and small notepad for documenting the activity.
