Congratulations to Syosset High School’s SYO SCI OLY group, which combined for 40 medals at the Science Olympiad regional competition held at Wantagh High School in February. When all the points were tallied from the competing 44 teams, all three SYO SCI OLY teams finished impressively, with Team A winning 1st place overall in the competition. Syosset’s Team B placed 4th and Team C finished in 8th place.
Composed of 45 students in grades 9-12 and 20 consultants, SYO SCI OLY earned the right to advance to the State Science Olympiad competition held at Le Moyne University in Syracuse. They won 15 medals and finished in eighth-place overall at states from a field of 55.
SYO SCI OLY also faired well at the recent UPENN invitational where they faced tough competition from national contending teams. Out of the 43 teams competing at UPENN, SYO SCI OLY placed 9th winning 8 medals. Mildred Castañeda advises the team, and thanks all of the members for an incredible year; especially her captains, pictured (l-r) Radhika Patel, Philip Jang, Ethan Zeng, Mark Thomas, and Julianna Bianco, for their tireless dedication.
