Following a day of faculty and staff preparation, the Syosset CSD welcomed back students for the 2016-17 school year on Sept. 1. Throughout the district, students met their new teachers and classmates and were given an overview of the topics they will be learning this year, the procedures each class follows, and some new and exciting activities they can look forward to.
At Berry Hill Elementary School, students arriving on the first day were greeted with signs held by their teachers, as the school song was played on a piano placed just outside at the front entrance. Among the new beginnings at the school was newly appointed Principal Mary Kolkhorst. At South Grove Elementary School teachers, students and parents alike welcomed Mi Jung An as their new principal.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Thomas Rogers was delighted with opening day. “The feeling of positive energy on our opening day visits was infectious; radiating from smiles on the faces of children and grown-ups alike. We wish everyone a healthy, productive and successful school year!”
