Kudos to South Woods Middle School students for spending Saturday, May 7 collecting more than 40 pints of blood during the school’s first blood drive. Peer mediators Michael Gadinis and Sarah Schwartz organized, advertised and sponsored the event, and the community was incredibly gracious in helping the school reach its donation goal.
Students registered and answered questions from donors, provided daycare for their children and even handed out snacks. The event was also conceptualized, designed and engineered exclusively by the students¬. It was a true mark of service learning and a shining example of how South Woods students are giving back to their community, devoting their time and energy on a weekend for the mere satisfaction of helping others.
