The district congratulates Syosset High School senior Griffin Halpern on being named a News 12/Bethpage Federal Credit Union Scholar-Athlete for the week of February 20.
Griffin captains the varsity basketball and soccer squads. He plays center and midfield for the soccer team and point guard for basketball, the latter of which he averaged 16.3 points per game with six assists this season. Additionally, he earned All-County honors and was named among the Top 50 players on Long Island by Newsday for both sports. He was also named Conference Player of the Year in basketball and led the team to its first playoff victory since 1991, scoring 29 points in the quarterfinal game.
Academically, Griffin has a 96 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Honor Society.
