Second graders at South Grove School participated in an exciting extension to their economics social studies unit: The South Grove Economics Association. During this business simulation, students worked collaboratively in one of seven “companies” to bring a product from inception to market.
Over the course of five weeks each “company” developed a product from clay, incorporating human, natural and capital resources. They also learned about the power of advertising, creating posters with slogans and were particularly excited when the All-Purpose room was transformed into a marketplace and companies set up their “stores.” Every student was given $6 in play money to make purchases, as they rotated between the roles of buyers and sellers.
This type of activity emanates from the field of gifted education and South Grove is proud to offer it to all of our students as part of our school-wide enrichment program.
